Piano Safari for the Older Student – Piano Repertoire & Technique Book 3
Piano Safari Older Student Repertoire Book 3, Repertoire & Technique, is the 123-page third lesson book for teens and adults in the Piano Safari method (SKU PSOSRep3).
This is the book where older students start playing standard repertoire for real. Each unit is built around one key. Students learn the scale, arpeggio, and chords, then a left-hand accompaniment pattern, and then pieces that use them. By the last unit they’ve worked through six keys and pieces by composers piano students play for years, like Czerny, Gurlitt, Diabelli, Duvernoy, and Burgmüller. Piano Safari’s Teacher Guide says the two-part pieces here are meant to pave the way to early Baroque music, such as J.S. Bach.
Who is this book for?
Publisher level: Older Student Level 3, listed by Piano Safari as Late Elementary.
Approximate student level: Late Elementary to Early Intermediate.
The Piano Safari Older Student Repertoire Book 3 is for teens and adults who have finished Older Student Repertoire & Technique Book 2. They should know major and minor pentascales and triads, the C major scale, and read intervals up to the octave. Rote pieces are no longer officially part of the method at this level. Students read everything, though a teacher may still demonstrate a passage.

A Note from August MuseWe sell the Older Student books individually. If your teacher’s list includes both Level 3 books, pick up Sight Reading & Theory Book 3 too. The keys line up unit for unit.
A metronome helps at this level, since scales are practiced in several rhythms. A free phone app works fine.
Stop in and flip through it. The range of styles from Unit 1 to Unit 7 is worth seeing.
