Energetiks Costume Bra

Most “dance bras” are a stretchy shelf that works fine for an A cup and fails everyone else. The Costume Bra is built the other way around — underwired, smooth-cupped, and sized to a DD, so a dancer who actually needs support gets it and still has a clean line under a leotard. Clear adjustable straps and a clear back keep it invisible, and the straps convert to halter, cross-over, regular, or strapless.

  • Underwired smooth cups — real support with a streamlined silhouette
  • Sized A through DD across five band sizes
  • Clear adjustable straps and clear back for discretion under costumes
  • Multi-way straps: halter, cross-over, regular, or strapless
  • Available in Beige and Wheat at August Muse

Energetiks Costume Bra | Underwired, Clear Strap, Multi-Way

Finding an underwire dance bra that works under a leotard is one of the quietly frustrating parts of dancewear. Most options aimed at dancers are unlined stretch shelf bras — comfortable, discreet, and structurally useless past a B cup. Most bras with real support come with opaque straps, a wide back, and hardware that shows through everything. The Costume Bra is Energetiks’ answer to that gap: underwired smooth cups that genuinely hold, in a construction designed to disappear. Clear adjustable straps, a clear back, and a size range that runs to DD across five bands.

For dancers who’ve been making do — doubling up sports bras, taping, or simply avoiding certain costumes — this is the piece that makes the wardrobe question stop being a distraction.

What makes this a supportive underwire dance bra rather than a shelf bra?

The underwire, first — it lifts and separates rather than compressing, which is what keeps the silhouette clean under a fitted leotard instead of flattening everything into one line. Smooth moulded cups do the second half of the job: no seams, no lace texture, nothing that telegraphs through lycra under stage lights. Together they give a natural, streamlined shape rather than the pressed-flat look a compression bra creates.

Support also affects how a dancer moves. Jumps, quick direction changes, and inversions are meaningfully harder to do confidently without it, and that hesitation shows in the choreography. A bra that holds properly is a technique tool, not just a comfort item.

How do the multi-way straps work?

The straps are fully adjustable and fully convertible: halter, cross-over, standard, or removed entirely for strapless. That covers essentially every costume neckline a dancer meets in a season — a halter jazz costume in November, a camisole leotard for exams in March, a strapless number for the spring showcase. Because the straps and back are clear, even the standard configuration reads as almost nothing under a low back or an open shoulder.

One practical note we always mention: clear straps are strong but they don’t grip the shoulder the way elastic does. For genuinely strapless costumes, use the strapless configuration and get the band fit right — the band is doing the work, not the straps.

How does this compare to the Clear Back Bra we also carry?

Both solve the “invisible under a costume” problem; they differ on support. The Clear Back Bra is the lighter option — simpler construction, easy to wear, ideal for smaller busts and dancers who mainly want coverage and a clean back line. The Costume Bra adds underwire and moulded cups, which is what you want if support is the actual requirement or if you’re in a C, D, or DD cup. If you’re deciding between them, the honest question is whether you’d choose an underwire in everyday life; if yes, choose it here too. We keep both on hand and are glad to let you compare.

Important: sizes are listed in AU bands, not US

This trips people up, so read this before ordering. Energetiks lists this bra in Australian band sizes — 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 — which are not the US numbers you’re used to. An AU 10 is a US 32, not a US 10. Cup letters (A through DD) carry across unchanged. The conversion table below is Energetiks’ own, and it’s worth a second look before you choose a size.

A quick reminder that applies to every bra, not just this one: the band carries most of the support, so it should sit level and snug on the loosest hook, leaving room to tighten as it stretches. If the band rides up at the back, go down a band and up a cup.

This chart is a guide only. Bra fit is personal and worth doing in person — we’re happy to help you size it discreetly at August Muse.

Best For

  • Dancers in a C, D, or DD cup who need genuine support under a leotard
  • Recitals, competitions, and showcases with varied costume necklines
  • Open-back and low-back costumes where a standard bra would show
  • Teachers and adult dancers who want support through a full teaching day
  • Replacing a drawer of half-working bras with one that converts
A Note from August MuseWe stock this one because of a conversation we kept having: a dancer who needs real support, standing in front of a wall of dancewear that assumes she doesn’t. The underwire and moulded cups make this a legitimate bra rather than a token layer, and the clear straps and back mean she isn’t trading discretion for it. Two things we’d tell you at the counter: the sizes are AU bands, so a 12 here is a US 34 — check the chart. And if you’re a smaller cup and mainly want a clean back line, our Clear Back Bra is the simpler, less expensive answer, and we’d rather sell you that. Come in and we’ll fit it properly and quietly.
