Capezio Jazz E-Series

Capezio’s top-selling jazz shoe, and the one we recommend to nearly everyone who walks in needing jazz shoes — student, teacher, or performer. The E-Series pairs a soft leather upper with a neoprene stretch arch, a foam-padded insole, and a split sole that moves the way jazz demands. No laces, no fuss: step in and dance.

  • Slip-on split sole — quick changes, clean lines
  • Soft durable leather upper, low-cut sides
  • Neoprene arch — stretches with the foot, no bunching
  • Foam-padded insole; EVA rubber patches; non-slip heel counter
  • Absorbent cotton lining for long teaching and rehearsal days
  • Stocked in Black and Caramel; Medium and Wide widths

Capezio E-Series Jazz Slip On – Adult (EJ2) | Split Sole Leather

Ask for slip on jazz shoes at almost any studio in the country and someone will hand you the Capezio E-Series. It’s the brand’s best-selling jazz shoe for a plain reason: it does everything a jazz class asks — grips, pivots, points, cushions — without a single lace to manage. Soft leather where the shoe needs structure, stretch neoprene where the foot needs freedom, and padding where hard floors do their worst.

We recommend it across the board at August Muse: the teen adding jazz to her schedule, the teacher demonstrating six classes a day, and the adult joining a musical theater production who hasn’t bought a dance shoe in twenty years. It’s that kind of shoe.

What should slip on jazz shoes do well?

Stay on, first of all — a slip-on that gaps at the heel during a jump isn’t a convenience, it’s a hazard. The E-Series holds with a soft elastic topline at the Achilles and a non-slip heel counter that keeps the back of the shoe anchored. Second, it should move: the split sole and neoprene arch let the foot point and flex without the shoe fighting back or bunching under the arch. And third, it should protect — the foam-padded insole absorbs landings, and the EVA rubber sole patches give controlled grip that still releases cleanly on pirouettes.

Why do teachers and performers keep choosing this shoe?

Hours of wear. The absorbent cotton lining keeps the inside dry through a full day of teaching or a long rehearsal, the padding holds up to repetition, and the leather upper breaks in fast then keeps its shape. Jazz shoes live a harder life than ballet slippers — more grip, more impact, more hours — and the E-Series is built like Capezio knows it. This is also the same neoprene-arch idea our Hanami Leather ballet shoe uses: stretch exactly where the foot bends, structure everywhere else.

Black or Caramel?

Black is the default for jazz class, team requirements, and most dress codes. Caramel blends with tights or skin for musical theater and competition work, where the line of the leg matters more than the shoe. We stock both; if you’re performing, check what the production calls for before the fitting and we’ll match it.

Sizing Guide — Capezio Adult E-Series (EJ2)

Detail Guidance
Starting point — women Begin 1/2 size up from street shoe size
Starting point — men Begin 2.5 sizes up from street shoe size
Widths M (Medium), W (Wide) — choose Wide for a high instep
Correct fit Snug with toes flat; heel locked against the counter, no gapping on relevé

Jazz sizing is its own system — a half size up for women is much closer to street size than Capezio’s ballet shoes run, and men’s sizing jumps 2.5. Don’t carry a size over from any other shoe, even Capezio. The chart is a starting point; a fitting at August Muse takes minutes and checks heel hold, instep, and width all at once.

Best For

  • Jazz classes at every level — the studio standard slip-on
  • Dance teachers on their feet all day
  • Musical theater and show choir performers (Caramel blends with tights)
  • Quick changes in competition and recital lineups
  • High-instep feet that fight laced jazz shoes — the Wide width solves it
A Note from August MuseIf we could only stock one jazz shoe, it would be this one. It’s not the flashiest thing Capezio makes — it’s the one that fits the most feet, survives the most hours, and never gives anyone a reason to think about it mid-class, which is exactly what you want from a jazz shoe. One thing we’ll insist on: get the width right. High insteps are the most common fit complaint we see in slip-on jazz shoes, and the Wide fixes almost all of it. Come by the shop in downtown Elizabethton and we’ll check it in two minutes.
